Deep Pipe Installation

Deep Pipe Installations

Deep open cut sewer and pipeline installations in urban zones are difficult undertakings. Excavating on busy streets in areas of multiple utilities, while maintaining safety, production and proper shoring, requires extensive planning and efficient methods.

Triad’s engineers thoroughly evaluate geotechnical conditions, research and plan all layouts, design the proper shoring, dewatering layouts if needed, and create means and methods for our work before we begin. Complete resourcing and scheduling is done to assure efficient construction.

Many miles of sewers have been installed in urban streets from small house connections (6") up to large interceptor sewers(72"); Depths have exceeded 26’. Triad has the support equipment and expertise to construct all sizes of sewers.

Pressure Piping

Pressure Piping

Since Triad's inception in 1987, thousands of feet of pressure piping have been installed successfully in a wide variety of environments. Pressure piping is used by many utility companies to carry water, waste, gas and special process fluids.

Triad has installed many miles of ductile iron, steel and pre-stressed concrete pipe - from small diameter distribution mains, along with hydrants and connections, to large transmission mains. Most of these projects have been installed in urban areas that demand careful execution and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.

Sewer force mains are becoming more popular as small sewage plants close due to EPA requirements. Force mains and package pump stations are being constructed to transport sewage to larger plants that meet EPA requirements. Gas lines have been installed for specific projects. Triad installed thousands of feet of steel and HDPE pipe. Our largest gas main project was 5000 feet long to a blast furnace location in Cleveland. Our largest pressure pipe project was three miles of 48” PCCP pipe in the City of Cleveland.

Road Boring

Triad Engineering can bore and install pipes and casings ranging from 1" to 48" in diameter by various methods. Triad owns pneumatic moles, pipe rammers and auger boring machines to get the job done right.

Our method of installation depends on the ground conditions and requirements. In larger diameter crossings that require steering at the bore face, we use small tunnel boring equipment that is designed to allow jacked liners behind the tunnel machine. All of these tools allow Triad to bridge the new demands of trenchless technology and tunneling.

Site Development

Pressure Piping

The market area of our Charleston, SC operation is seeing unprecedented privately developed growth. National developers are undertaking large scale projects including new home and commercial sites at a brisk pace.

Efficient and timely site utility installations are an important early step toward meeting demanding schedules and generating revenue from lot and building sales. Many of these sites require pipe installations in challenging soft sandy soils below the water table, requiring dewatering. Triad is able to mobilize multiple crews and equipment to efficiently meet your schedule with a quality installation.

Tunnels & Shafts

tunnels and shafts

Triad has been in the tunnel and shaft business since the company's inception in 1987 and has more than 25 years experience. We have constructed tunnels with diameters that range from 6 feet to 15 feet, including horseshoe shapes.

Our excavations have been in all types of ground conditions from running sand to hard rock. We have the ability to excavate tunnels by the use of tunnel boring machines, roadheaders and by hand when necessary. Our tunnel installation ranges from short road crossings to tunnels up to three miles long. Shaft excavations and installations are necessary to excavate a tunnel. Most tunnels require an access shaft, which will vary in shape, diameter and depth. Triad has installed both round and rectangular shafts up to 150 feet deep in varying geologic conditions. The shaft walls are protected by various means such as driven sheeting, liner plates, ribs with lagging and poured-in-place concrete, all of which Triad has performed on projects.

Tunnel and shaft construction is Triad Engineering’s specialty. We have the knowledge, experience and engineering skills to solve your tunnel and shaft challenges.

Horizontal Directional Drilling

Horizontal Directional Drilling

As part of our effort to be a complete trenchless solution company, we have expanded our operations to include horizontal directional drilling. Triad’s HDD manager and staff have more than 15 years experience.

Our capabilities include sizes up to, and including, 24” diameter piping. In our first year, we have installed fiber optics, sewers, force mains and water mains. Our current capabilities serve the southeast region of the U.S., including Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and northern Florida. For special projects, we can mobilize to almost any region in the eastern U.S.

HDD is the new area where Triad combines its technical knowledge with exceptional customer service for the communications and utility owner.
